Omg this was amazing!! I was about to burn down my house and shave all our heads when I discovered lice in my daughters hair but found this company instead and Lex talked me out of it. Lex answered my text at 11:00 pm and immediately made me feel better and took all panic away. She came over the next day and it was like chatting with a friend! Seriously. Read more...
I knew I was in good hands when she asked me about the drama I had with my neighbor. It was awesome. My husband was super self conscious at first and was very uncomfortable to have someone “picking at him” but Lex came in and put him at ease. She is very professional and knowledgeable and is EXTREMELY thourough. No one wants anything born on their heads but Lex actually made the experience fun. Yes, fun. Our family laughed and was able to bond over this horrific ordeal I dreaded since I gave life to two girls with hair on their heads because Lex took all the stress away. I was so overwhelmed but being lice free after ONE treatment was worth every penny. Lex even took her time to show me how to check since she knew I was traumatized and paranoid over this outbreak. The night before I couldn’t sleep because I swear I could hear the lice building condos and chewing my flesh but after Lex came I slept so well knowing nothing was being laid or born on my head.

What Our Customers Say About Us

Jennifer B. West Linn, OR
Lex came to my rescue after three days of trying to fight lice on my own with the usual over the counter and home remedies. Unfortunately none of them were working. Read more...
I was getting frustrated and scared that the lice may be spreading and felt like I just wasn't having any success. My other options (prescription treatment, going to a salon) were extremely lengthy and expensive. I found Lice Charmers and called them. They were extremely helpful and prompt. Within a few hours Lex showed up at my house and went to work! She quickly and efficiently combed through my daughter's hair and checked the rest of the family. She also was extremely knowledgable and helpful at how to get rid of them in the house and debunking a lot of misinformation you will find on the internet. My family was quickly lice free! And she did it all in two hours which meant it was very affordable, and money well spent! I would not waste any time with lice and call Lex first!

My children feel like they've had a combination salon treatment/ science lesson, and now we can all go back to school with confidence! I do not have time to experiment with 3- star options; Lice Charmers knows what they're doing and have the reviews to show for it!

Found a nit on my daughter’s head at 6:30 on a Saturday night. Found Lex online and texted her at 6:40. She was at our house 20 minutes later! 7 o’clock on a Saturday night, people! Read more...

Convenient to be able to get treated at our own house (where my wiggly toddler could be comfy and watch cartoons at the same time), plus Lex was super-thorough, friendly, and helpful with tips. Highly recommend!

They're called super lice because they are resistant to pyrethrin and lidane, which are chemicals used in drugstore lice shampoos, prescription treatments, and other lice products.

Many lice products rely on chemicals like lidane, malathion, and pyrethrin to interfere with normal nervous system functions in order to kill lice. While the dose makes the poison, there are very few quality studies on the long-term effects of these products and many are marketed as supplements in order to avoid scrutiny by the FDA.

Since lice die after 24-48 hours without feeding, you can simply set items aside or bag them for 24-48 hours. However, lice “usually cannot survive in bedding or clothes, so extreme cleaning is unnecessary and ineffective” -"Head Lice," by Dr. Bryant.
If you want to take action immediately:
1. Loosely pack items that can be laundered into the dryer for 30 minutes.
2. Vacuum items that can’t be dried: sofas, beds, stuffed animals, etc. 3. Items that can't be washed can be bagged and put in the freezer for 24 hours.

The current best DIY option is the 21-Day Method. Like the name says, it takes about 21 days and requires a lot of hours learning how to comb and then more time combing out each person, and success isn't guaranteed. We understand lice services aren't for everyone and if you have no other option we still want to help you because no one should have to suffer from lice. Give us a call and we will try to advise you on how to get good results on your own.

"As noted, over-the-counter products that contain pyrethrins or pyrethroids (like permethrin) are unlikely to offer much relief because many to most lice are now resistant to those chemicals. In fact, they could prolong a person’s suffering, because it takes a few days to know whether the product is working." - Consumer Reports Aug 29th 2016

"Skip products containing lindane. This chemical is neurotoxic and carcinogenic to humans, and has been linked to reports of seizures and even deaths from improper use. ...[N]ewer prescriptions may well work against super lice because they act via different mechanisms than the pyrethrins or pyrethroids. But you'll need to go to the doctor, and these products are expensive—$100 or more for a single treatment. What's more, they won’t necessarily kill the lice eggs. And because young children have thinner skin, they are more susceptible to absorbing these chemicals through the scalp and to the side effects that they might cause." - Consumer Reports Aug 29th 2016

"Shampoo shields: These products claim they can prevent or reduce the risk of getting head lice, but evidence is sparse. The Federal Trade Commission charged the manufacturer of at least one such product with false advertising." - Consumer Reports Aug 29th 2016

Quick Guide to Head Lice Removal Options

We've done the research, but we encourage you to do your own so you can make an informed decision.

Drug Store Products

  • Do not kill every louse and nit, which can lead to reinfestation.
  • No longer work on Oregon's super lice.
  • May contain neurotoxins.

Prescriptions

  • No prescriptions kill all lice and eggs in a single treatment without potential side effects.
  • According to the Center for Disease Control, Malathion is only "partially ovicidal," which means it doesn't kill all the eggs, so the infestation will return.
  • Requires a doctor visit, which isn't covered by insurance
  • Learn more from Consumer Reports.

Home Remedies

  • May take a long time and often can't treat the whole problem, which results in a waste time and money when the lice come right back.
  • Many of our clients have tried multiple home remedies and battled head lice for months before calling us.
  • If home remedies worked reliably, there would be no lice removal businesses.
The Center for Disease Control: "does not have clear scientific evidence to determine if suffocation of head lice with mayonnaise, olive oil, margarine, butter, or similar substances is an effective form of treatment."

Do-It-Yourself Manual Combing
  • Takes weeks, is not easy, and can be painful without good technique.
  • If hiring a lice service isn't an option learn more here.
